Click Here to Learn About the Federal and State Solar Incentives

Our mission is to educate area homeowners on their electricity options. We do this through a free home structural survey coupled with a current electrical usage analysis to determine your ability to qualify for rooftop solar generation – and the Federal Tax Credits and the Virginia carbon credit rebates. Finally, for qualified homeowners, we connect them to local, certified installers.

Big changes are coming to your electric bill

In April 2020, the General Assembly of Virginia passed HB 1526: the Virginia Clean Economy Act. This law mandates that all electric utilities operating in the state must replace their carbon-based electrical generation fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) with renewable sources, specifically solar and wind power. Dominion Energy must accomplish this complete changeover by 2045. Additionally, Dominion Energy must meet a 40% clean energy generation requirement by 2030. As of January 2022, Dominion Energy generates just 8% of its electricity from renewable sources.

Dominion Energy has been granted a 40% rate increase to achieve the 2030 goal

For the average homeowner, this will add $65 to their already $124 monthly bill. Or $800 a year.

What does this mean for you?

To accomplish the goal of 100% renewable energy generation, Dominion Energy estimates it will require an investment of $84 billion. This “investment” will be passed on to the 2.5 million electric customers of Virginia through ever increasing rate hikes. Conservatively, most homeowners will experience a doubling of their electric bills in the near future.

Bottom line: if you do nothing, you will end up paying much, much more to receive the same energy you use today. Exploring how rooftop solar energy may work for your home, can lock in your current electricity expense for the next 25+ years!

What can you do?

The Virginia Clean Economy Act reaffirms your ability to both generate your own electricity AND sell your excess energy to Dominion Energy. RVA Home Solar educates homeowners on the pros and cons of “going solar” so you can determine for yourself if solar is right for you.

The first thing to do is have RVA Home Solar conduct a free home energy survey to determine if you can qualify for the solar program. This includes a structural examination of your home (primarily your roof, its orientation to the sun, and your electrical infrastructure) and an analysis of your electric usage.

Only 10% to 30% of area homes qualify for solar energy
